Hump Day: My New Favorite Highball

And I have the Oakland Fox Theater to thank!  This past spring, I had the privilege of seeing a few shows at this recently reopened, amazing venue.  To get ready for the show, The Hub and I warmed up at the nearby Cafe Van Kleef and imbibed in some of their famous Greyhounds! Oh man are they delicious!  What makes their Greyhounds so special and refreshing is the fact that they are made with fresh squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice. For each drink, the bartenders squeeze the juice from perfectly ripe ruby red grapefruits and mix it with a very generous portion of Seagram's Vodka.  As an added lovely touch, they put an entire quarter of a grapefruit atop the glass. My visits to the Cafe Van Kleef inspired me to try out this cocktail on my own: 2 oz. Ketel One Vodka (the vodka of choice for a Haute Housewife) 4 oz. fresh squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice Put ingredients into a collins glass with ice cubes.  Stir well.  Garnish with grapefruit wedge. *Note - I have found that if only regular grapefruits are available, the juice of 1 lime helps to balance out the bitterness Cheers to the last half of the week!
