So, I have a confession to make. We did something really touristy during our trip to Stockholm.
We went to the
Absolut Vodka Ice Bar...
...and we had a great time.
Absolut-ly for tourists
Really! Laugh all you want, but it was a fun way to end a full day of walking around and sightseeing. Yes, it is super cheesy, but it's a pretty unique experience and
there is booze involved, people. How can you have a bad time?
The Ice Bar is located inside the
Ice Hotel right near the Central Station stop. The whole process is a tad uppity - they will make you feel like you absolutely
must have a reservation (a good idea to be on the safe side, but it really didn't seem necessary) and costs $20 for entry and one shooter. You get to put on really funny looking gear, and spend as much time as you want hanging out in a 23°F ice chamber.
michael and simon all dressed up and ready to hit the ice chamber!
awesome ice glasses! by the time you were done with your drink, the glass was perfectly molded to the shape of your mouth!
It was actually pretty cool! You really can only spend about 20-30 minutes inside the bar since it's so freaking cold, but that's plenty of time to have a few little cocktails, get your silly pictures, and get a little buzz on. Or maybe that's just Brain Freeze.
inside the bar
loved the colors
cocktail time!
my favorite was the Northern Light
the bar is full of ice sculptures and carvings
Absolut Ice Bar, corny as it may be, is going on my "Do" list for Stockholm!
cheers!
*Note: According to the website, there will be a concert performed in the Ice Bar on Dec. 11 & 12 on acoustic instruments made from ice! Sounds like a can't-miss if you're in the area!
you obviously know that this is RIGHT up my alley. i am jealous and must put this on my to-do list.
We went to an ice bar in New Zealand and felt exactly the same about it: thought it was gonna be kinda cheesy and touristy but we had a lot of fun and thought the glasses were sweet!
