Hump Day: Hitachino Nest Beer

Hitachino Nest Beer is a brand of beer that The Hub and I enjoy...when we can find it!  The Kiuchi Brewery was established in 1823 by Kiuchi Gihei , the headman of Kounosu village.  In 1950 Mikio Kiuchi inherited the brewery legacy, which at that time was producing only sake.  Kiuchi began brewing beer under the “Hitachino Nest Beer” name in 1996.  Today they produce over 10 different flavors of beer.

some of their popular flavors

I have always enjoyed the Red Rice Ale while The Hub favors the Espresso Stout.  The other night at Whole Foods, we noticed two different flavors we hadn’t tried before:  The Real Ginger Brew and the Japanese Classic Ale.

The Real Ginger Brew was not as syrupy sweet as some ginger beers can be.  I enjoyed the subtle taste and fizzy afterbite.

Real Ginger Brew

Being a huge fan of IPAs I was excited to try the Japanese Classic Ale.  It definitely delivered with the usual hoppy, malty flavor, but seemed a little bit lighter than normal Pale Ales.

Japanese Classic Ale

These beers are a fun and refreshing way to mix up the work week!  Plus that owl is just so damn adorable.
