Have dinner at any restaurant in France and the first thing they will ask you is, "
Désirez-vous un apéritif?" An aperitif is a refreshing pre-dinner drink that is meant to stimulate the appetite.

Usually The Hub and I go straight for the wine, but lately we've been imbibing in a more traditional pre-dinner drink: the
Kir Royale. We drank a lot of these while we were in Paris with my parents. I'd partaken in this cocktail before, but after moving to France, I finally realized the difference between a regular Kir and the Kir Royale. A
Kir is made with a base of white wine and the
Kir Royale is made with champagne. Go big or go home, I always say!
In both drinks, the alcohol is mixed with creme de cassis, a sweet, blackcurrant flavored liqueur, although some restaurants like to add a twist by using flavors of raspberry, peach or strawberry instead. Either way, I've been finding the Kir Royale a very nice way to start my meal!
What is your favorite aperitif?
