The Year of the Beard

Last year was the first Christmas that The Hub and I celebrated together as a married couple.  We decided to spend the holiday in San Francisco and start our own traditions.  We bought a tree, had our parents send us some of our favorite childhood Christmas ornaments (Barbie for me, Star Wars for The Hub) and spent a quiet, cozy holiday with our little family of us and Figaro.
Because we like to make a big deal out of birthdays, we usually give each other something small for Christmas.  Last year we decided to start exchanging an ornament each year to build our own family collection.  As I prepared for the exchange this year, I decided to check out one of my favorite sites, Etsy, to see what sort of beautiful, hand crafted ornament I could purchase for The Hub.  While perusing, I came across these amazing ornaments, by Prairiedog.

The Hub started growing his beard last April as part of a Bachelor Party challenge, and let me tell you, there is something special about a man and his beard.  The Hub takes great pride in his beard, constantly brushing and trimming it.  I think he must have some kind of radar that alerts him to when I clean the bathroom, because it seems that everytime I scrub the sink and countertop, he is in there 20 seconds later trimming up his beard and getting hair all over the place.

And you know how women compliment each other on their hair or clothes?  Men seldom do this....unless there is facial hair involved.  There's something about a magestic beard that makes it ok for men call out, "Sweet beard, brah!"  Yes, men are funny about their beards.  It's a phenomena I'm just learning about. Since 2010 has been the Year of the Beard, I freaked out when I found these Beardies ornaments on Etsy.  How perfect!  All I had to do was send a picture of The Hub to Prairiedog and she made a little custom Beardie just for him and had it at my doorstep in a week!  I think it turned out pretty amazing:

The Hub: Beardie

Isn't it great?!  The Hub loved it.  I also received a beautiful ornament for Christmas.  The Hub brought me back this gorgeous gold bulb from his trip to Paris.

More to come on our 2010 Christmas later this week!
