adventures of an american housewife in the south of france

The End Of The Road

We made it.  We are in Montpellier!  Although it was not without its challenges, most of the trip went smoothly.  But before I get into how we got to France, I want to tell you a little bit about the rest of our road trip across the good old U.S. of A.

First, we spent 2 days in Wisconsin visiting with our adorable nephew, Dylan, eating my father-in-law’s incredible homemade pizza, and visiting with family and friends.  It was great to see everyone one last time before we embarked on our epic journey.

The weather was absolutely terrible on Tuesday morning as we prepared to leave Wisconsin for Ohio.  In fact, it was snowing.

snow!

Because we were on such a tight schedule, we decided to leave as soon as possible and try to avoid the treacherous conditions that awaited us on our drive:  snow, hail, rain, wind, thunderstorms and possible tornadoes.  Great.  Penny, our truck, was awesome.  She (and The Hub’s skilled driving) got us safely to Ohio in about 10 hours.  Much longer than our usual commute, but all things considered, it could have been much worse.  Once we arrived in Ohio, we unpacked Penny in record time (about 1 hour) and arranged all our belongings in my sister Tori’s storage area in her basement.  I’d like to give a big shout out to our besties, Marq and Matt, who helped us pack the truck in San Francisco like a giant game of Tetris.  Everything arrived unscathed in perfect condition.  I don’t think anything moved in there the whole trip – ever.  Hooray! Thursday was the day everyone had been waiting for:  Tori and Patrick’s marriage soirée!  I am not calling it a wedding because they are still going to have a big celebration next May as they originally planned, but they decided to get married early in a small ceremony in their backyard gazebo, which is where Patrick proposed over the holidays.  That way they will be legally husband and wife before their baby arrives in the fall.  The Hub and I are so thankful they decided to have the ceremony while we were home so that we could be present.  For a marriage soirée that was put together in less than a week, it was pretty awesome!  My mom did an amazing job of sprucing up the yard and gazebo with lots of fresh flowers and it was the only day of the week that was absolutely gorgeous:  sunny and warm with a light breeze.  Perfect!  Tori looked so beautiful in her dress, she brought me to tears!

It was so nice to meet all of Patrick’s family and his best friend/best man, Ryan.  We all had a fantastic time witnessing the special ceremony and celebrating afterwards at The Harbor Inn on Portage Lakes.

cutting the cake!

The next day, it was time to pack up and head to France!  That is a story in and of itself, so I will be telling you all about that tomorrow – it was a very eventful trip, so make to check back! À bientôt!
