adventures of an american housewife in the south of france

Pack It Up, Pack It In

Moving sucks anyway you slice it, but I think I've been putting off packing because I was dreading the moment our house went from "our home" to "the place we're leaving behind."  We've lived in our house for 3.5 years and it truly was our home.  I remember being so excited about moving into this place back in 2007.  It was the first time I'd ever moved in with a boyfriend and it was the easiest move I'd ever done in my life.  All of our belongings meshed perfectly together; everything had its place and we were totally aligned with how we wanted to set up and decorate.  It was a breeze.  Five months later, The Hub proposed to me in our home, making it that much more special to us.

This move is a little bit different than a typical move because we're not just packing up our stuff and bringing it to another house.  We aren't going to see our belongings for at least 18 months, so with every item I pack I have to ask myself, "Will I want this 18 months from now?"  It's a lot of sorting through things and figuring out what we're keeping, what we can take with us to France, what we're giving to Goodwill, and what we'll try to sell.  We've spent the last 2 days tackling this project, and I'm already exhausted.  We've put a pretty big dent in the task, but we still have a looooong way to go.

One thing I do know is that this garage sale we're having over the weekend is going to be EPIC.  We have a lot of great stuff that we just can't keep, so it's going to be a treasure trove for bargain seekers.  I'm talking countless picture and poster frames, espresso machines, dressers, lamps, books, shoes, purses, instruments, and more.  I'm looking forward to shedding the excess from our lives and keeping only what I know we truly need and want. Gotta get back at it!  Stay tuned to see if we win the battle over this move.
