adventures of an american housewife in the south of france

Guest Post: A Day in the Life of The Hub

Many of you have been asking me how The Hub is liking his new job and I'm happy to tell you that he loves it! I thought you all might be interested in learning more about what he's doing here in Montpellier, so I asked him to write a guest post about A Day in the Life of The Hub.  Even though he's over 3 hours past the deadline I gave him to submit, I'll let it slide since he's the only one with a real job. Enjoy! So… errrr… alors, many people have been wondering what was this Job d’Hub that brought the Haute Housewife to the South of France.  I’ve also been asked a lot about my new office, what I’m working on, and if I like it, so let’s kill two birds with one stone. First, I should show you where I work.  It’s called The Villa and it’s pretty sweet.  It’s a 17th century house-turned-gaming studio with a big garden.  Obviously, I’ve never worked in any place like this before.  It’s really an awesome place to work, it’s close to the city center, close to the tram, and has good vibes all around.

the villa

bienvenue!

Now, this place doesn’t really have a supply closet, I haven’t found a copy machine, and when I started there was only one phone that my whole floor shared.  But I can say that I’ve found more wine openers than staplers around here and we get this great bounty of fruit every week.

the dates are ridic.

They also provide this awesome coffee/drink station.  OK, honestly, I don’t really take advantage of this because I don’t really know what to do with it all.  I think you mix some of it with water and some of it with coffee but I’m not really sure.  I’ve been living off my favorite Starbucks Via Colombians in the meantime.

Let’s continue the tour by checking out our conference rooms.  Watch your step!

super steep

The first one is located in, well, the attic.

The next conference room is the one I use the most.  It’s also our lunch room, where we do interviews, photoshoots, and where I take conference calls.  Look, when the weather is as great as it is here, this is where you want to be.

when's the last time you got tan during a meeting?

Finally, I guess I should tell you about the game I’m working on – Rayman Origins.  It’s a really creative project and I’m lucky to be a part of it.  Rayman is an armless, legless, neckless hero who is set out to save his world from some crazy creatures created by bad dreams.  It’s a classic 2D platforming game (think Mario or Sonic) with an art style that is really awesome.  I describe it as a Tim Burton meets SpongeBob meets Ren & Stimpy type of thing.  Well, I guess you should just check it out for yourself: That’s all for now.  Thanks to the wifey for letting me take over the Haute-ness today.  À plus!

Great update — can’t wait to visit! That stuff at the drink station is a classic French drink — it’s flavored sugary syrup that you mix with water, as you pointed out. I used to like it as a kid, but now I think it’s kinda nasty.

@Nate: [French rage on] You’re nasty! Syrup = delicious & refreshing and way mpre healthy than all the soda crap! [French rage off]

@Michael: Try a mix coffee w/ a little bit of grenadine syrup. I loved that back in the days…
