Flashbacks and Friday Bed Beard

I've now gone two full weeks without a phone and it's equal parts liberating and frustrating.  I do plan on getting a cell phone here, but before you can buy a phone and purchase a plan, you have to have things like a home with an address.  Figures.  So in the meantime, I'm doing things the old fashioned way like using a map, wearing a watch, and actually planning out in detail the exact time and place I will meet people.  The whole thing is giving me flashbacks to 10-15 years ago when no one had a cell phone and you actually had to be in the place you said you'd be at the time you said you'd be there.  You had to be, you know, reliable and stuff or risk the anxiety of, "Is he coming?  Am I standing in the wrong place?  We said 5:00, right?  Did something happen?"  It's actually kind of fun taking the time to figure things out instead of relying on instant communication, but it also makes me think, how did we ever live before cell phones and could I ever go back to not using one?  I'm grateful to at least have the internet back at our hotel to help figure things out.  It's not like I'm living in the dark ages. In honor of such flashbacks I'm posting an old Bed Beard picture that I took last year in San Francisco.  I really love this one because Fig is sitting in his favorite spot on the top of the couch and the sleepy look in his eyes just cracks me up.

can I go back to bed?

This weekend we have a lot going on!  Tonight, The Hub's boss has invited us to a BBQ at his house in Castries (about 15 km outside of Montpellier).  We'll spend the night there and head back into Montpellier in the morning just in time for the city-wide Street Fair, which includes lots of sidewalk sales, eating, and drinking.  Tomorrow night we're going here with another of The Hub's co-workers, who is also from California.  After 2 weeks of French Food, I'm pretty excited to get my burger on.  We'll finish off the weekend with some Skype dates to wish our moms a Happy Mother's Day. I have a lot of exciting posts planned for next week including a feature on French products, an update in our wine adventures, a new entry from Fig's diary, and *fingers crossed* an announcement of where we'll be living.  Make sure to stop by! À bientôt!
