Almost Home

Today we took one step closer to making Montpellier our home - we signed a lease on an apartment!  We decided on the apartment in the Antigone and we couldn't be more excited.  The location will give us easy access to both tram lines, the city's Olympic pool and gymnasium, the city center, Parc Richter, and The Hub's office.  Parfait!  I don't have pictures to share with you yet, but it's a 3-bedroom apartment with a terrace for Figgy, a very nice, almost-fully-equipped kitchen (just need to buy a fridge) and 1 parking spot for our potential future car.  Even though it's so close to the city center, the building is on a quiet side street with lots of trees and flowers.

We'll be getting the keys on Friday and moving in this weekend.  As we get closer and closer to having our own space, I've been doing more and more shopping.  Furnishing an entire home is a huge project and doing so on a teeny tiny budget is even harder.  We want to be comfortable, but we're keeping in mind that these things will only be used until we move back to the U.S.  Our home will be a combination of Ikea, sidewalk scores (2 good ones so far!) and D.I.Y. projects.  I've never been much of a do-it-yourselfer but I'm excited to give it a go!  And with the unusual abundance of wooden pallets around these parts,  I'm planning this for my first project.  I think it will be perfect for a cozy little spot in our third bedroom where I can read and Fig can sleep. I also found a wheely, wooden closet rack of sorts (sidewalk score!) that we plan to turn into a home for lots of hanging plants to help fill out the space in the living room.  I can't wait to share these projects with you...if they're successful... We spent this weekend researching prices at Ikea, eating tapas with our new Italian friends, and spending lots of quality time together since The Hub will be gone the rest of this week.  He's leaving tomorrow morning for L.A., so Fig and I will be all by our lonesome here in France.  Lucky for me, I've met lots of cool people already and have set myself up all week with dinner dates and sleepovers.  Before I know it, it will be Friday and we'll start the move into our new home. I'm counting the days!

Hooray! Congrats on your new home, the courtyard looks lovely! Feegee will be very happy there =)
Now for an SF update for YOU:
Bay 2 Breakers missed you this past weekend! Despite no floats and a rainy forecast, the day turned out spectacular. Friendly neighbors set up turntables on their front stoops, costumed revelers congregated at every intersection for makeshift dance parties, and the sun came out at 10am and shone for the remainder of the race.

Though Montpellier may not compare to San Francisco, I hope you find a familiar streak of unabated FUN in your new hometown! xoxo
