adventures of an american housewife in the south of france

A Little of This, A Little of That

First of all, sorry for being so absent lately.  It's a 9 hour time difference between California and Montpellier and last week's jetlag just about killed me!  I've always prided myself on being able to adjust to the time with minimal problems.  I was fine on the way to California, but an epic weekend of late nights combined with no sleep on my flight home led to an entire week of being totally screwed up.  I was waking up at 4:30am, taking 2 hour naps starting at 7:30pm...basically everything you're not supposed to do when trying to get back on a sleep schedule.  I took a small amount of Ambien on Wednesday evening, which usually works when I'm trying to sleep through an entire night, but all it did was turn me into a total zombie.  I woke up at 1:30pm on Thursday afternoon and felt like I'd been hit by a ton of bricks.  I was cranky, out of it, and in no mood to blog.  Did you make it through Friday ok without a picture of Fig's Bed Beard? But this week, I'm back!  I promise.  We had a nice rejuvenating weekend with friends.  I ate the most delicious fig of my life, picked straight off the tree, saw Very Bad Trip 2 (otherwise known as The Hangover 2 - where they come up with these translations, I have no idea) and got a lot done around the house.  We are getting ready for our Crémaillère (Housewarming Party!!) this Saturday, so The Hub and I spent all day yesterday putting our finishing touches on the apartment.  We are so close to being done and I'm really hoping to put together a "House Tour" to share with you next week.

I've planned a lot to tell you this week about life in France, but first, I really want to share some special moments of the beautiful wedding we were part of in California. Remember best-friend-in-law, Marq?  He's kind of famous.  And he's one lucky man because not only is his stunning bride Dawn as beautiful as she is kind, but she's also his perfect match.

they don't get much cuter than these two.

Marq and Dawn tied the knot at The Grand Island Mansion in Walnut Grove, CA.  This place was incredible and very "Gatsby-ish" if you'll allow me to make up a word.

Marq and Dawn put a lot of personal touches into the celebration, which I always think makes a wedding extra special.  First of all, Dawn did all the flowers herself.  She also sewed handkerchiefs to give away as favors.  Is she crazy or what?!  No, not crazy-crazy, just crazy-talented.

she even did her own bouquet!

pretty amazing, huh?

Marq, being the artist extraordinaire that he is, also had a large hand in the event.  In addition to designing the Save the Dates, invitations, and the beautiful mirror that accompanies the handkerchief in the photo above, he also created one of his signature posters for the event.

loves! are these on e-bay yet? i took two.

They also served Dogfish Head beer, one of my favorite, craft breweries that Marq has worked with over the years to create some pretty amazing labels.  My drink of choice for the evening was the Hellhound, a recent collaboration between Marq and Dogfish Head.

The Hub had his first stint as Best Man, and I think he did a pretty spectacular job.  He was punctual (what!), gave a great speech (duh) and looked handsome as all get out.

the only picture of me and The Hub from the whole night...hmm...

We partied into the wee hours of the morning.  We were all feeling a little rough the next day.

This special weekend was well worth the jetlag that followed - I was honored to be part of it!  Congrats again to one of my favorite couples, Marq and Dawn!

Well I’m flattered and blessed to have such a crazy-talented wife and a lovely BFF-in-law. Thanks for the adorbs blogging, so glad you were able to attend and document things before the madness. . . and after.

Cheers on hitting the hellhound all night, I did too. Made me silly.
