Hump Day: Sassy Malbec

My apologies for being so MIA lately!  These last few weeks at work have been very busy which, after 7 months of unemployment, I'm actually really enjoying!  I've also been lucky to have lots of friends in town lately, so between work and play, I haven't had lot of time for blogging.  But don't you worry, I am not going anywhere anytime soon. ( I know you were concerned.)

During all this playtime, The Hub and I have been plowing through our collection of 5¢ wines from the BevMo Sale.  Last Friday our friends Trisha and Sandra came over and we enjoyed a fabulous Argentinian Malbec- a varietal that is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

To me, a Malbec typically tastes somewhere between a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Merlot.  The grapes of the 2009 Zolo Gaucho Select Malbec were grown in the Mendoza region and the wine was aged 6 months in oak.  It has a  smooth taste with great, black fruit, and a hint of spice. We found that it tasted best after it breathed for about an hour. Even at full price, this is definitely a wine worth trying.  It can be enjoyed as an everyday drinking wine but is good enough for a special occasion.  As far as Malbecs go, this one has jumped to the top of my list!
